Foundation Purchases DJI Matrice 210 Drone for BPD

The Foundation recently purchased a DJI Matrice 210 drone for the Burleson Police Department. The Matrice 210 is a commercial grade drone with a dual gimbal system that allows BPD to utilize a 4K camera in conjunction with a FLIR (thermal imaging camera) or other combinations of equipment. The dual battery system on the Matrice allows the pilot an approximate flight time of 35 minutes.

Drones have become increasingly popular with the law enforcement community and are often used for search and rescue, gathering intelligence in criminal cases or disasters, mapping, and providing an aerial platform for officer safety. BPD obtained a Certificate of Authorization from the FAA to fly the drone and will soon begin training the pilots.
