2016 Supervisor of the Year

Sergeant Bob Sherman

Sergeant Bob Sherman is a twenty-three year veteran of BPD and has been a sergeant for seventeen years. He is the Administrative Sergeant assigned to the Support Bureau and oversees Training, Internal Affairs, Crisis Negotiations, Victim’s Assistance, the Community Resource Officers, and the School Resource Officers. In addition, Sergeant Sherman manages all aspects of the red light camera program, the drug take-back program, new officer training and orientation, as well as interns assigned to the department.

Sergeant Sherman is credited with overhauling the entire training system for BPD during 2016. He evaluated, organized, and categorized each employee’s training records and worked with TCOLE to correct official records for our officers. He identified training deficiencies and created roadmaps for officers to obtain higher certifications. He implemented a paperless training records system and located low-cost options for officers to receive on-line training credits that could be completed on their shift, thus saving overtime funds.

Sergeant Sherman created a partnership with the Johnson County Sheriff’s office to host training classes in BPD’s training room. His efforts resulted in over sixty-seven hundred TCOLE credit hours for officers. He personally taught thirteen of the thirty-three classes on topics such as Deaf and Hard of Hearing, K-9 encounters, and First Aid/ CPR training. Sergeant Sherman coordinates orientation for newly hired employees to ensure their training records and curriculum is met.
