2016 Civilian of the Year

Mike Alley

The 2016 Civilian of the year had to transition from a sworn police officer to a civilian position. While that was a difficult task, Officer Mike Alley made the transition with sheer determination to continue serving the citizens of Burleson and the Burleson Police Department in any capacity he could. His challenges were large but Mike’s willpower for success was even larger. Mike’s new assignment as the Accreditation Manager was complex and required extensive training to grasp the concepts and policy application.

 The Burleson Police Department was the first Texas agency to receive accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 1987 and has maintained that distinction since then. The process requires the manager to maintain all policies, update and write changes to policy, research reports to ensure “proofs” are maintained as required, and coordinate department-wide to ensure the documentation reflects the policy. The manager coordinates with our regional CALEA representative and monitors all CALEA standards changes.

It is an enormous responsibility that requires dedication and commitment. Mike made the transition and is recognized as the Civilian of the Year.
